He was a Dikambara. This book of 43 slokas is about the state of a self realized person. He has also written another composition with the same title Atma Vidya Vilasam.

This book is about the 43 verse compostion. For the purpose of creation, the Maya, which is the indivisible part of Brahman, breathed and then came the five elements of space, air, water, fire, and earth, like a potter brings about pots through his wheel. What is there to do, excepting de-contaminating the Self, from the body, senses, breath and mind? It does not decrease, nor decrease, nor decay.

It is the ever present Witness, which can be experienced if you remove the superimposition. What is the profit for me? What is the loss for me?

I am ever happy in the self-effulgent swarupa, the Brahman. We can also attain to the state of Digambara like Sada Siva Brahmendra if our conciousness is nude without any thoughts. In verse16 he is advising us to disidentify with the adjuncts so that self reveals spontaneously which releases us from ocean of samsara which is an imagined imprisonment in relative world.

Rising and setting are possible when there is contrast which is possible only in the relative world. But self being absolute things like rising and setting will not be there. If we are just a witness to the work of Maya,it will not affect us but if we start involving in it’s affairs we will be a victim of it.

Saints like Sadasiva Brahmendra and Tyagaraja are self-realised masters and spread the of essence of spirituality by composing it in beautiful songs. They contributed to the culture in an unique way. Such people are our cultural heritage.

Atma Vidya Vilasam Shlokas

Where can the “Atma Vidya Vilasam” be read or purchase? Oh Arunachala, blazing fire of Jnana, in my heart I pray and think viilasam Thee from afar, root out the ego, merging me in the Self. Dear non due, I am very pleased about your enthusiasm about Atma Vidya Vilasam.

I ahma reading a Tamil version. I am sure Sri Ramakrishna Math does not have an English version. I shall try in one or two bookshops in Bangalore, which exclusively deal with books on philosophy and religiion and if I get a good English version, I can courier it to you.

French translation will not be available. Only the Self should not be clothed with good or bad garments. The body can be. But certain saints in the past had no clothing. Even Bhagavan, was without even any loin cloth some time, since He did not care about anything other than the Self. Akka Mahadevi, a famous Veera Saiva saint of Karnataka, was wearing some leaves of the trees around her waist. When Allmma Prabhu, another saint asked her, why should she care for externals, she replied, “It is not for my sake, that I am wearing, but for the sake of people like you!!!

R on August 18, My dear non duel, I am yet to search for an English translation in Bangalore bookshops.

If I succeed, I shall courier it to you. I have ready only viya Tamil book, with Sanskrit original. In case, I do not get that English translation, I shall try translating the Tamil commentary, to the extent possible and shall post letters. I am happy about your interest.

Dear Fidya, I wrote my last reply to tell you that after my search, an english translation didn’t exist to save you spending energy searching for it.

But I got this information which could be helpfull. There is a translation: It is a rare book and is not easily found. Sri Ramanashramam Library has a copy. Thank you for your help. My dear non duel, Thank you for your valuable information.

Or otherwise, you have put up with my poor English translation. R on August 28, August 28, This is where He considers Himself, as a maiden, waiting to be married by Siva and panting for his grace. This long poem, in which every two line request starts with each alphabet of Tamil, starting from ‘a’ and runs for lines. The refrain has to be repeated after every two lines! The poem was composed by Bhagavan to enable His devotees to go out to Tiruvannamalai town for begging alms and was at the request of Palaniswami, who was His earliest devotee.

The Hill Itself is Siva. In various temples, there will be Siva lingam inside the sanctum sanctorum. Here, the large Hill itself is Siva.

This is, apart from the Siva lingam, inside the temple.

Bhagavan used to say that in Tiruvannamalai, there are four Siva lingams. One is the Hill, the second is inside the temple, the third is Seshadri Swami, who was in Tiruvannamalai, and who attained liberation, a few decades before Bhagavan and the fourth is Bhagavan Himself.

The refrain Arunachala Siva, which helped Bhagavan to get food for a number of early years in His life in Tiruvannamalai, is also capable of giving food for the individual soul, the Liberation. Arunachala Siva, is the talisman for everything in one’s life, be it health, wealth, happiness and liberation. It atm with the alphabet ‘a’. As said in the Bible, ‘I am the alpha and omega.
