Unfortunately, a couple of things kept me from rating the book as high as I would have liked. D I loved the magic system! The story, setting, and magic system also reminded me a bit of The Name of The Wind — especially the part where Kvothe attends magic school and studies a rigidly structured magic with specific rules. We’re all looking for more! Go buy a copy of Mistborn and then after you have read that and probably also binge-read all his other books, return here and nod knowingly.

Rithmatics is, really is, a fascinating mix of logic, math, and art see the wonderful drawings by Ben McSweeney at the beginning of each chapter, basicallyand exploring the theory behind Rithmatic combat as Rithmatists use various geometric shapes to direct and protect themselves from the chalklings is an eye opening experience for anyone who appreciates the beauty of simple geometry. This book does feel more like Middle Grade than YA.
United Isles of America. I really enjoyed his storyline and riithmatist everything turned out for him in he end. So I’m getting better brwndon managing that, but I’ve gotten these kind of “open” series. Another good thing about Melody was that she isn’t a love interest, at least, not yet.
